Well this film turned out to be entertaining. There was so much that this movie could've did to shoot itself in the foot with the premise. The movie ultimately ends up working as an action comedy. Ryan Reynolds and Sam Jackson work real well together, Salma Hayek is the real MVP of the movie, and Gary Oldman acts his ass off as the main bad guy. Only downside to the film is that the tone ends up being all over the place. One minute its an action comedy romp then the film gets serious out of nowhere which tends to take you out the movie for a minute. Overall its a fun watch.
Long story short, Idris and McConaughey give great performances but the story was lacking. They set up this interesting world but don't even fully explore it. Instead they tease it and leave you wanting to see and know more. If you're a Stephen King fan you'll be disappointed.
After making his mark in Civil War, Spiderman is back with another solo movie but this time its set in the MCU. Homecoming is a very good title for this film because its indeed a big deal seeing Spiderman interact with his corner of the MCU. We finally get a Peter Parker dealing with legit high school stuff and it isn't glossed over. On top of that he's also dealing with a legit good villain in The Vulture. Overall this is a solid movie that puts the focus on Peter Park/Spiderman and his corner of the MCU world.
Fives movies into this franchise and at least on the action Michael Bay has improved. Story wise? Not so much which is a shame cause The Last Knight had potential to be really good on that end. What we have is a movie thats decently entertaining but the addition of Marky Mark's personal subplot kills the main plot momentum. If you know what you're getting into with these Bay movies, you'll like it otherwise if it isn't your thing then don't watch it.
After 1 polarizing film and 2 films that soured folks on the DCEU, here we have Wonder Woman swooping in to save the day. This film is really good and what makes it work is how simple they kept things. It didn't need to be ridiculously complicated. Gal Gadot nails Diana/Wonder Woman perfectly and her supporting cast does the job as well. Definitely a must see film.
Movie Review....Slightly better than Prometheus but that isn't saying much. What you have is a film that ultimately ends up being 'meh' and you're laughing at it for the wrong reasons. Tread carefully with this one folks.
Light spoiler review of the most excellent sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a sequel with purpose in that the characters got fleshed out more and it further expanded on the MCU cosmic universe. Definitely an enjoyable film all around.
Remember when this series started out being about street races? Pepperidge Farms remember...LOL. With the 8th film in the franchise, Director F. Gary Gray manages to keep the crazy shenanigans this series is known for intact and also keep the casts camaraderie intact as well. It makes for a very fun and entertaining film overall. You won't be disappointed.
Quick Rundown: This Power Rangers movie turned out to be quite the surprise and a great addition to the franchise mythos. You have the core 5 cast who have great chemistry with one another with RJ Cyler being the breakout star. The action is serviceable and works for what the movie is accomplishing in giving us these rangers in action. Elizabeth Banks hams it up as Rita Repulsa and it works great. Overall this is an entertaining movie that will sneak up on you.
Unlike previous X-Men films that kept the strong tradition of delivering in the first half of the movie only for the second half of the movie to shit the bed, Logan actually stays consistent from beginning to end. Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen and Patrick Stewart were all good...hell very good at times and X-23 ends up stealing the movie.
The downside though is that the pacing is DULL. The plot, DULL. Backstory, ALMOST NON-EXISTANT. And as always...mutant powers misused.
End of the day, Manigold made the movie he wanted but your mileage of enjoyment will vary depending on if you're anal about comic book accuracy and such.
Quick overview: Folks this is a damn good movie that disposes of all the conventional horror movie tropes and does something fresh and new with the genre while also having a lowkey commentary on our society. Great cinematography, great acting, great music, and just an all around great experience. Go see this movie!
Quick Overview: The Great Wall starts off as a promising movie but quickly ends up stalling out after a great opening sequence. The movie also relies heavily on the actors to carry the movie instead of us wanting to be invested in the characters that being presented. One shining spot is despite the marketing pushing Matt Damon as the hero, he ends up being a background character to the Asian leads which is a pretty cool. Ultimately what you end up getting is a very forgettable movie which is unfortunate.
Quick overview: Fist Fight ends up being really funny with a decent plot. Charlie Day was hilarious, Cube was surprisingly VERY funny. Some of the humor might cross a line but thats a good thing. Jillian Bell came close to stealing the movie twice. Barely a dull moment. Well worth the watch.
We came, we saw, and we survived the most ridiculous, fun movie in the latest xXx franchise film. Is the movie good? Not really but sit back and listen as CJ and Dee talk on the crazy stuff this film did.
